About Us

Certified Chimney Sweeps and Certified Dryer Duct Exhaust Technicians

The primary job of a chimney service professional is to aid in the prevention of fires. This relates to fireplaces, wood stoves, gas, oil and coal heating systems, clothes dryers and the chimneys and ducts that serve them. Certified Chimney Sweeps installs, cleans, and maintaind these systems. We also evaluate their performance, prescribe changes to improve their performance, and educate the consumer about their safe and efficient operation.

Our secondary job is to assist our customers in the energy efficiency of their home. The Chimney Department Ltd. has partnered with Ambit Energy to offer customers discounted rates on their Electricity and Natural Gas costs. We educate customers on lower energy costs, energy efficient heating appliances, fireplace efficiency and interior air dynamics.

About the Chimney Department, Ltd.

As a result of the destruction caused by chimney and dryer vent fires, the Chimney Department, Ltd. began as a one-man chimney sweep operation in 1980. As sole owner and operator, and career firefighter, Dieter Bove’ had seen first hand, the damage these types of fires can cause. He realized that chimney fires started because there was a void of information on chimney and fireplace maintenance and safety, for both homeowners and firefighters. By 1985 the Chimney Department became a local authority on the installation and maintenance of solid fuel appliances.

By 2006 the Chimney Department grew to five employees and an excellent reputation among customers for great work, fair pricing and superior professionalism.

In 2011 the Chimney Department, Ltd. became a female owned and operated business. We stand on a foundation of treating our customers like family and doing our absolute best to protect their homes and property from damaging fires.

Today the Chimney Department’s service crew has 55 years of combined skill as certified chimney professionals and professional certified firefighters. Collectively, our service technicians have served in the Marine Corps and Navy. They are Arson Investigators, Master Rescue Divers, Technical Rescue Specialists and Paramedics.
